Vaccine Link Debunked

The 1998 study that claimed vaccines cause autism has been retracted. Turns out, the doctor behind it had big time conflict of interest. His work was funded by lawyers suing the vaccine makers, and his own vaccine product stood to benefit by eliminating its competition. If that isn’t bad enough, he took blood samples from children at his son’s birthday party?!? Yikes. Parenting FAIL.

I never bought the vaccine link. If you did, I hope this changes your mind. Autism is a natural difference. We need less blaming, more understanding.

  1. I'm so glad this finally came out! My research has never supported this theory, either, and it scared me that some diseases we eradicated may return due to the mass hysteria of vaccinations.

  3. No, I never bought into the vaccine mumbo-jumbo either. On the other hand, I never had kids to worry about--just the public's health. ;-D

    You're a funny guy, Matt.
My blog's the exact opposite, the bad boy side of dealing (or not dealing) with Asperger's.

You make my days MUCH better!

  4. Thanks, Gambeli. I think maybe we all go through periods of dealing and not dealing.

  5. Yikes! I hadn't heard about the birthday party part... it's frightening that this person was ever considered part of the scientific community!

I'm hearing a lot about research into gluten exacerbating autism symptoms and significant improvement in some people who eliminate gluten sources from their diet. I have an aspie friend who has seen huge improvements by making this change (along with increasing his B12 intake) - and remarkably he has not seen any reduction in those positive (read: awesome) aspects such as thinking differently form "mundanes" (one of my favorite words for the boring neurotypical people)
