What's to Fear?

  1. This is great Thanks, my little man has a fear of the doctors so this really made me chuckle.

  2. oh boy, doctors don't really bother me so much but the DENTIST is another thing altogether.

(though it sure is hard to do that "on a scale of 1 to 10 rate your pain" thing. I also use non-pain related words for pain which confuse people, like "I sure am sad" if my stomach hurts. Oy.)

    1. I think the dentist is more of a trigger for physical discomfort, with the scraping and the drills and all, and the doctor is more of a mental thing - the fear of the unknown and the "what do I have?" A lot more variables.

    2. Interestingly enough, my fears related to doctors tend to be "they probably won't be able to fix it anyway" which unfortunately often keeps me from going to the doctor!

I wish there was a way to better cope with waiting rooms, I just had an awful meltdown waiting in the waiting room (and I wasn't even the one going to the appointment!) and I was despondent that I wasn't able to handle it better. Guess it's time to start waiting in the car...

    3. Hm, well, waiting for someone else's appointment is even worse, because there's no payoff for you. A good time to bring a book or a tablet and zone out.

    4. That's why I have my 3ds, my netbook, and my phone - with my one of my fave games on it. Even if there's not wifi, I have plenty of offline stuff I can do on it. I like taking my program (legally!) and clip sounds to make for ringtones!

  3. Hmmm... I never thought of it that way before. I think I understand a little more why my son won't tell me when he is sick. He waits until it is clear and evident, and there is no denying it. By the time we get to that point, a hospital stay is often warranted. By the way. I love your site. Your views on the world are truly inspirational.

    1. Hi Pammy, I'm glad you like the blog! Sorry to hear about your son's difficulties - I imagine many parents have the same challenge when their child can't articulate what is wrong. I wish I knew what advice to give, other than to be overly observant, which I'm sure you already are.
